WPPI | DOES IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

I heard it was something you HAD to do.  Something you simply could NOT miss.  And they were right.  Since 1981, WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) has held an annual convention and trade show in Las Vegas, providing wedding and portrait photographers with amazing opportunities for growth and knowledge.  When I entered this industry, WPPI was something I heard about at every turn.  It had a lot of hype and I wasn’t sure how it would live up to it all.  Earlier this month, I flew to Las Vegas and attended WPPI for the first time and was completely blown away.  13,000 photographers, 365+ exhibitors, endless classes and opportunities for growth, learning and meeting other people, and I couldn’t have walked away with a better experience.  I left thinking, inspired, and ready to apply all that I learned in the next wedding season here in New York City!  So excited!

Don’t worry Mom & Dad, I just took a picture of the slot machines!  I didn’t even play the nickel slots!

DESIGN*SPONGE FEATURE: BLOSSOM + BRANCH BY MAGGIE HARKOV

When Sarah of the ever chic and fabulous Blossom & Branch asked me to photograph and collaborate on a DIY (do-it-yourself) project for the amazing Design*Sponge, I was beyond excited.  We had such a fabulous afternoon and I learned so much about arranging flowers.  Sarah created incredible pieces using everyday items from the kitchen and I was ever so inspired.  I wanted to go to the nearest flower stand and begin creating immediately!  Luckily, Sarah offers bodega flower classes here in NYC (her next one is on April 11th), and for those that are slightly less talented in that department (i.e me) I highly recommend partaking in one.  What fun!  At the end of our session, the lovely Miss Sarah even let me take home the beautiful arrangements and I was in heaven!  I don’t think our home ever looked or smelled so beautiful.  I will be sharing some images from our session soon, but in the meantime, you can check out the feature by clicking HERE. Be sure to check back next week, when they feature the second half of her amazing creations!

Beautiful images! I’m a design sponge subscriber and LOVE that blog. Congrats on the feature Maggie!

Thanks Gabe! Most definitely! :)

Those photos were so cool! You’ll have to fill me in on the arranging secrets at some point.

NEW YORK CITY PHOTOG SHOOTOUT

I am not a model.  Shocking, I know, friends, shocking.  And, yes, although my jaw dropping walk where I trip over my own two feet on a surprisingly regular basis may seem entertainment enough to some, I’m definitely not destined to walk down the runway.  I belong behind the camera, so I feel especially  in awe of people who can just stand or walk with such grace and beauty.  And, it seems almost incomprehensible to me that someone could do all of that so flawlessly in 20-something degree weather for the great NYC Photog Shootout where 75+ photographers showed up for a fun day of shooting.

If it were me, I’d have flat out refused – accepting only upon the condition that I could trot the streets of New York in my flannels, layered above layers of long johns & sweaters or better yet a fabulously chic snuggie.  You know you love the image.  Hot, right?  Hot.  Who wouldn’t want to photograph that?  Ok, so seriously folks, I had such a blast shooting along side some other wonderful photographers and getting to know people in this great industry.  But, I felt kind of guilty.  I had just about every piece of winter clothing I owned on to prevent frost bite (I’m not overly dramatic at all here friends, obviously), and my facial expressions behind the camera must have resembled a stone wall, for I think at one point my eyeballs froze, but they took just rocked it out and were gorgeous.

A big thanks to Rob Nicholson and William Chang for setting up such a fun day.  It was such a joy to be a part of – frigidness and all and I’m thrilled to be a part of the team. :)

You captured the beauty of the day! And they don’t even look cold, amazing.
