A MODERN BABY SHOWER FOR KENDRA

I had the privilege of hosting a baby shower for my dear friend, Kendra.  It was so wonderful to celebrate Taylor’s near arrival with such joy while helping Kendra get ready for motherhood with all the necessary baby items (and my goodness, are there many!), and to see the absolute glow on her face.  It goes without saying that she will be an amazing mother and I can’t wait to see her play that role so beautifully.

It was a great fun to plan a non-pink baby shower for a little girl and to serve some non-traditional dishes that were easy and didn’t require hours of preparation.  Kendra loves all Asian cuisine, so Mr. Hallmark and I suffered through taste testing from every Chinese and Japanese menu in town to find the perfect place.  It was a tough job, but someone had to do it.  We ended up ordering from Shanghai Bistro & Den and prepared the easier dishes in our own kitchen.  Instead of cupcakes or a cake, we did a miniature candy bar and served doughnuts and coffee for dessert.  It was a low calorie, highly nutritious meal, obviously, but it was great fun and it was enjoyed with friends over much laughter.

Etsy, my new amazingly creative best friend helped me out with the adorable banner and the pom-poms that gave a little kick of color in our home.

The mother-to-be and yours truly

And my very wiped out little girl, Sophie, who found all the female attention simply exhausting.

Kendra McGuire - Thank you, again, for throwing me such a perfect and beautiful shower! Every part of it, from the food to the decor, was simply amazing. I am so blessed to have you in my life!! xxx

maggie - I didn't even know that's what it's called. But, yes, so much fun! :)

Chaucee - Aw I love the "bunting" of baby clothes!

SNOW DAYS AND WHOOPIE PIES

On a snow day like this:

I’m unbelievably grateful for this:

Mary & Greg, who will be getting hitched come September on the most gorgeous farm about 2 hours north of the city have just become my new best friends.  Unbelievably thoughtful and kind, they knew that I’m slightly obsessed with EVERYTHING pumpkin and brought me whoopie pies from One Girl Cookies to share with Mr. Hallmark.  Is that not the sweetest thing ever?  SO touched.  Whoopie pies, by the way = a little piece of heaven by way of yummy nearly bite size pumpkin cakes filled with the most delectable cream cheese frosting.  I LOVE them.  And, I heart Mary & Greg, who made my already glorious snow day just a little sweeter with their love, warmth and whoopie pies.

Happy snow day.  May you be warm and cozy!

maggie - Thank you! Though, I have to admit, I'm ever so slightly jealous of your 81 degree, flip flop/tank top weather! :) Trade? XOXOX

Dottie - The quiet beauty of falling snow. I love looking at these pictures, especially from sunny California. Such an artiste you are!

MAGGIE HARKOV PHOTOGRAPHY FEATURED ON BROOKLYN BRIDE

Yay!  When Vané Broussard of the fabulous Brooklyn Bride contacted me to let me know she would be featuring my work from Sharon & Chris’ wedding, I was thrilled!  It’s such an honor to be up on it’s wonderful pages alongside so many great photographers and to relive Sharon & Chris’ day once more.  To see the post in its entirety written by Sharon, the lovely bride herself, click HERE.

Happy Monday, my friends! :)

Dottie - What a great visual testimony! Simply fab!

alyssa - wow! awesome and congrats!

NEW YORK CITY PHOTOG SHOOTOUT

I am not a model.  Shocking, I know, friends, shocking.  And, yes, although my jaw dropping walk where I trip over my own two feet on a surprisingly regular basis may seem entertainment enough to some, I’m definitely not destined to walk down the runway.  I belong behind the camera, so I feel especially  in awe of people who can just stand or walk with such grace and beauty.  And, it seems almost incomprehensible to me that someone could do all of that so flawlessly in 20-something degree weather for the great NYC Photog Shootout where 75+ photographers showed up for a fun day of shooting.

If it were me, I’d have flat out refused – accepting only upon the condition that I could trot the streets of New York in my flannels, layered above layers of long johns & sweaters or better yet a fabulously chic snuggie.  You know you love the image.  Hot, right?  Hot.  Who wouldn’t want to photograph that?  Ok, so seriously folks, I had such a blast shooting along side some other wonderful photographers and getting to know people in this great industry.  But, I felt kind of guilty.  I had just about every piece of winter clothing I owned on to prevent frost bite (I’m not overly dramatic at all here friends, obviously), and my facial expressions behind the camera must have resembled a stone wall, for I think at one point my eyeballs froze, but they took just rocked it out and were gorgeous.

A big thanks to Rob Nicholson and William Chang for setting up such a fun day.  It was such a joy to be a part of – frigidness and all and I’m thrilled to be a part of the team. :)

Dottie - You captured the beauty of the day! And they don't even look cold, amazing.

Beth Alix - AMAZING shots!!

Joshua Dwain - Hey Maggie, I was there too! You got some great captures.

LOVE AFFAIR

When I first saw him, I knew I was in trouble.  It was love.  Love at first sight.  Really, head over heels, fall on your face, butterflies in your stomach to the point of nausea L.O.V.E.  That’s just the affect he had on me.  Imm.ed.iate.ly.

The moment we simply worked and functioned flawlessly together without endless hours of frustration or my developing the desire to chuck him out the window, I knew I had found my match.  I’m talking MAJOR compatibility here, and MAJOR points on the attractiveness scale.

Mr. Hallmark, I suppose I have you to thank, for it was you who drove me to him.  It was your insisting that I could do better.  Your pushing that he had so much more to offer than his counterpart.  And, I have to admit, you were right.

Oh, Ira, my beloved iMAC, how I adore you.  An avid PC user for all my life, you’ve changed me right to the core.  I am no longer a technologically frustrated freak yelling at the inanimate object before me, hoping that my tears or the profuse beatings with my fists might encourage it to work.  Without my begging, pleading, coaxing or returning hours later to see if it has decided to actually run without crashing, you, Ira, simply function.  And, as a photographer, who spends many a hour in front of a computer, I am completely and unabashedly smitten.

Marco Markovich - Welcome to the mac world! I'v been on Macs since 1987. Good luck with your unit!

maggie - Aren't they fabulous?! Life changing!! I look forward to checking out your blog! Thanks for stopping by mine! :)

Chaucee - I was a PC user too until last August and now I am SO addicted to my mac. I had a conversation with someone the other day about Mac vs PC an they just didn't get it.
