UC BERKELEY ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS | VICKY + ED

About nine years ago, during the first week of their freshman year at UC Berkeley, Vicky and Ed met among friends and immediately felt a connection.  A connection that not only would last throughout the various changes we all undergo during our college careers, but into forever, and nine years later, they are tying the knot and couldn’t be more smitten with each other.

Vicky and Ed are absolute sweethearts and I couldn’t be more thrilled to work with such a delightful pair.  Vicky and I had spoken over the phone and through emails, but we didn’t officially meet in person until I flew into San Francisco from NYC for their engagement session.   I knew through speaking to her and our interactions via email that they were special people, but when I met them, I knew right away that they are truly something extraordinary.  Spending the day getting to know Vicky and Ed felt like gaining two new great friends, and it was such a privilege to hear about their relationship and see where it all began on the campus of UC Berkeley nine years later.

The future Mr. and Mrs. really wanted to highlight all the special places at Berkeley to them – all the places that had significance during their time at school, and I adored documenting it all! Vicky and Ed were so open, and warm and wonderful and really wanted to share this special place with me and it was such a gift.  Getting to know and become friends with my clients is absolutely one of my favorite parts of my job and I feel so fortunate to have such amazing people as clients.

I can hardly wait to document the special day of these lovely people next month in Pasadena, California and look forward to photographing many more engagement sessions and weddings in Northern and Southern California in the future!

Vicky and Ed, thanks for being you.  I had such a wonderful time and so appreciate all you did to welcome me to Berkeley!  I simply adore you both!

Big hugs,

Maggie

CHRISTMAS IN CALIFORNIA

Last year, Mr. Hallmark and I missed Christmas in California.  Being the traditionalist that I am, and finding comfort in familiarity, Mr. Hallmark knew it would be tough for me to miss so he tried to recreate the holidays for me at home.  We got a real tree, eggnog, Bing Crosby, the whole nine yards.  Our Christmas morning was spent enjoying cinnamon pastry while opening our stockings with a wee little 5 month old Sophie, who was thrilled over her latest toy treasures from Santa.  We had a wonderful morning, but it didn’t feel like Christmas to me – it just felt like a lovely day playing dress up or staging a holiday with all the props necessary, but without all the characters.  His family joined us for brunch and we talked and laughed over roasted red bell pepper soup and pesto, tomato, and fresh mozzarella paninis while Bing warmly serenated our meal.  Thoughts of my family gathering together laughing and loud filled my mind throughout the day and I missed them and all their wonderful noise.  We spent the rest of Christmas day the Jewish way: with Chinese and a movie.  It was a really lovely day, and I adored being with people I love, but I missed my family, our traditions, and all the warm fuzzy feelings of Christmas.

This year, we flew to San Diego for the holidays, and warmed ourselves in delightfully sunny 60 degree weather.  Actually, kind of a lie.  Mr. Hallmark will attest that I found it quite chilly, but it was pleasantly warmer than New York City and I enjoyed taking morning strolls without wanting to flee indoors as quickly as possible and being free of my layers and wool coat.  The best part though, of course, was the presence of my husband and family, all under the same roof.  And, even though our Christmas’  have begun to change with our ever-growing family, the day is still filled with that same contagious joy and laughter that it did when I was a child, and a million amazing moments to remember with those I love and treasure most.
